Usage & Function
What to do if the frame is full?
The best thing to do is just get another JAMU picture frame . 😉
Or you can take a look at our blog , where we give tips on how to cleverly store and file children's drawings .
How many pictures can be accommodated in the JAMU?
This depends on the paper thickness and the materials used:
- Fresh, smooth paper (straight from the pack): approx. 200 sheets
- Normally painted paper (colored pencils, felt-tip pens, some “children’s hand patina” 😄): approx. 150 sheets
- Thick paper with watercolors, collages, feathers, etc.: approx. 20–100 sheets
In short: JAMU adapts to your creativity!
Is there room for thicker images?
Yes! There is 3 mm of space between the glass and the partition , so that thicker paper, collages or passe-partouts can be inserted without any problem.
For very thick artwork or craft projects, you can alternatively insert the picture without glass. This way your frame remains flexible for different works!
Is there room for a mount?
Yes! There is 3mm space between the glass and the partition , so you can easily insert a passepartout or even a collage .
How do I clean the frame and glass?
To clean the wood, a dry or slightly damp cloth is sufficient. Please avoid aggressive cleaning agents as they can attack the oiled surface.
The best way to clean the glass is with a microfiber cloth and glass cleaner . Do not spray the cleaner directly onto the glass, but rather onto the cloth to avoid marks on the edges.
Can I use the frame without glass?
Yes! If you want to frame particularly thick works of art or crafts such as collages, paper cuttings or 3D elements , you can simply leave out the glass. This gives you even more flexibility in your design.
Can I have the frame individually engraved?
We currently do not offer personalized engraving .
However, if you would like an individual design, you can subsequently edit the frame yourself with a laser engraving or a branding stamp .
assembly
How to attach the frame to the wall
We supply a hanging set with each picture frame, which consists of three wooden discs, a dowel and a screw . In addition, assembly instructions are always included. You can find the PDF of the instructions here.
We have also posted some videos on Instagram showing you how the frames are assembled. Check it out here!
Can the frame also be set up?
Yes, the frame can be set up without any problem. Thanks to its 4 cm depth, it can be placed on a flat, level surface - even in the large A3 version .
Can the frame fall off the wall?
No, if it is installed correctly , it cannot simply fall off the wall.
To remove the frame, you have to lift it slightly to release it from the special suspension, making it almost impossible for it to fall down on its own.
⚠️ Important: The frame should not be turned 180° , otherwise the glass could slip out.
Here you will find instructions for correct installation .
How to rotate the frame?
Each frame – regardless of format – has a special opening on the back that allows three orientations:
- portrait format (rotated left or right)
- landscape format (horizontal)
The appropriate mounting set (including a screw) is supplied with each frame.
Tip: The opening is always at the top if you want to change the picture.
How do I know where to drill to hang the frame?
This is actually not that easy – that’s why we have developed a drilling template !
On the back of each package you will find a template in the size of your frame. Cut it out, stick it to the wall and align it. (Video Instagram)
The drawn cross marks the exact point where you have to drill so that the frame hangs exactly as you placed it.
Tip: The template also helps you if you hang several frames to ensure that they still look good after turning.
Can I attach the frame with adhesive tape instead of screws?
No! We recommend mounting it to your wall using the screw provided and a suitable dowel.
The frame is relatively heavy with a depth of 4 cm and a sturdy glass , so adhesive strips or magnetic solutions are not reliable enough.
Does the frame also hold on plaster or drywall walls?
Yes, but you should make sure you use the right dowels . For plaster or drywall walls, we recommend hollow wall dowels to ensure the frame stays securely in place. If you are unsure, ask a hardware store for suitable dowels for your wall.
Can I also attach the frame to a sloping roof or wall?
No, the frame requires a vertical wall for secure hanging. Due to the special suspension, it cannot be mounted at an angle.
Can I hang several frames next to each other?
Yes, that is possible. But note that the frames can be rotated. It is helpful to use the drilling template to check beforehand whether the alignment looks correct after rotation.
Can I move the suspension later if I want to hang the frame somewhere else?
Yes, you can simply remove the frame and attach it to a new location . If you have already drilled, you may need a new dowel and screw.
Each hanging system works the same on every JAMU picture frame. So if you have multiple hanging systems, you can always rearrange your JAMU frames.
optics
What formats are available?
Our JAMU picture frames are available in three formats to match the most common paper sizes:
- A6 ideal for postcards and photos
- A4 perfect DIN A4 drawings
- A3 for large works of art in DIN A3 paper
Currently no further formats are planned .
How thick is the frame?
The JAMU picture frames all have a uniform depth of 4 cm . This makes them stable and free-standing.
Thanks to this depth, they offer plenty of storage space for the 100 drawings.
Are there frames with narrower or wider profiles?
No, all JAMU picture frames have the same 4 cm deep profile to allow storage space for drawings.
Can I see the frames somewhere?
Yes! There are a few shops that sell our frames – but often only a part of our range. You can find an overview of the sales outlets here .
You can also view and purchase the JAMU picture frames directly from the Züriwerk Foundation in Bubikon – exactly where they are produced.

How do fir and maple differ
Both types of wood have a bright, friendly appearance, but there are some differences:
- Softer wood with a slightly rustic grain
- Visible, natural branch attachments possible
Looks a little more lively and natural Develops a slightly yellowish patina over time
- Harder wood with a very fine, even grain
- Less visible branches, looks calmer
- Lighter than fir, almost whitish
- Yellows slightly over time, but remains brighter overall
Both woods are treated with a lightly pigmented oil to slow down yellowing.
Does the color of the wood change over time?
Yes, wood develops a natural patina over time. Fir and maple in particular can darken slightly or take on a warmer tone. The pigmented oil helps to slow down the yellowing.
Are there color variants or painted frames?
Not currently. We use natural wood surfaces with oil treatment to preserve the grain and feel.
We offer the " raw fir " variant - this is untreated and can be painted, stained or varnished as desired . Perfect for creative individualists!
Can the frames purchased differ from the pictures in the shop?
Yes, that can happen because wood is a natural product . Every wood grain, every shade of color and small knots make every frame unique .
It is precisely this natural variation that gives your JAMU picture frame its individual charm!
Is the supplied glass anti-reflective?
No, the glass is not anti-reflective. The glass supplied is a 2 mm float glass.
Why glass and not plexiglass?
We deliberately avoid using plastic and instead use real glass .
Although glass is heavier, it is durable, recyclable and free of microplastics . Unlike plexiglass, it does not scratch as quickly and retains its clear appearance for years.
I don't like the frame. What do I do now?

No, the hanging is already included ! We supply the complete hanging set with every JAMU picture frame – including screws, dowels and wooden discs.
Everything you need is already included.

production
Where are the frames produced?
Our JAMU picture frames are manufactured in cooperation with social workshops :
In Switzerland : Production and shipping are handled by the Züriwerk Foundation in Bubikon .
In Germany : Since 2024 we have also been working with the Caritas Hochrhein Foundation , where a reduced range is produced.
In this way, we remain true to our motto: We produce where we sell.
Where does the wood for the JAMU picture frames come from?
Proof follows...
How environmentally friendly is your packaging?
Our packaging is made from recyclable cardboard and is designed to safely protect the frame without generating unnecessary packaging waste.
The padding material for the glass is also used as sparingly as possible.
What are the frames oiled with?
We use a natural oil that protects the wood and enhances its grain.
For fir and maple, we also use an oil with white pigments to slow down the yellowing process. Nevertheless, every type of wood develops a natural color change over time.
